2003 Club Car Gas blowing headlight fuses when engine runs
I just purchased a used 2003 Club Car gas model which came with headlights and tail lights. When I bought it, there was no fuse in the headlight fuse socket. I put a fuse in and it worked fine while the engine was off. Once I start the engine, the fuse blows immediately. Otherwise, the cart seems to operate just fine.
Does this sound like a common problem anyone else here has encountered? possibly a bad voltage regulator? Any input greatly appreciated. Keith |

Thanks for the response!
It runs directly to the positive side of the battery. The negative wires all are grounded to the frame in a common location. Last edited by keith@nfainvestments.com; 03-23-2009 at 11:13 PM.. Reason: additional line of text |

Before the regulator tests read across the grnd connections one may be cruddy and driving the amps up with the increase of voltage from the generator.

I'd put a voltmeter on the light circuit, measure, start the motor, measure. You may have an overvoltage situation. A bad ground will not blow fuses, a short circuit to ground, overvoltage, overcurrent or a shorted light bulb/socket will blow fuses.

You might try to jump the ground wire direct to the neg. side of the battery. Then start the engine to see if fuse blows. I have had prior problems when trying to ground to frame as it is easy to develope poor connection.
