G1 backfiring

Bought my G1 awhile back. Replaced the source coil, head, jug, piston, plug, etc. Cart ran great for about a year at the hunting lease. I pull the choke, start it, push choke halfway in to pull it up to camp. After that, I could run it all day and start it the next morning with no choke. Ran like a champ hot or cold.

I brought it home a month ago, cleaned the plug, new battery, and fuel filter.
Cart ran great around the house for a few days. I get it back to the lease thia weekend and all it wanted to do is cough and backfire under light and heavy loads. I don't get it. What could be wrong with it?

Do you use stabilizer in your gas? We have been having a TON of starting and running problems with seasonal equipment due to ethanol-related problems. We service the equipment, send it home, it sits for a period of time before the owner uses it, and then won't start or runs like crap. The ethanol sits in the carb and causes corrosion or forms "carburetor snot" and plugs up the jets and passages. If this is your problem,you can try cleaning the carb, it seems to work on these older carbs with larger jets and passages. Newer carbs are ruined and have to be replaced to get the engine to run properly. Always use stabilizer in your gas!

Hopefully this is not your problem, but pull the carb and check it out.

I did add 4 gallons of fresh fuel mix on top of last seasons gallon/gallon and a half. I'll check with the next tank if it improves. I didn't even think of that!

Can also try some seafoam in it, that stuff is great for 2 strokes. Best to mix it in the gas before adding oil if you premix. However I don't know if it would fix a dirty carb right away, really all you have to do is pull the bowl off and use some carb clean with the hose on all the little passages you see, that works 98% of the time.
