Thanks all! I'm surprised you got rid of that G1 Slonomo. You have had a journey on that one it seems.

I debated yanking the 670cc out of my junkyard cart and going vtwin here, but wanted to go high RPM single piston this time around. Anyone have recommended billet piston rod for a 440 Duramax?

Raydhd will chime in, he's the clone expert. I'm out of the clone business lol.

Yeah the camo hunting G1 cart was a fun ride. There's not another like it, that's for sure. The bad thing is the guy I sold it to isn't a mechanic type so.....hope he has some friends to help him figure out what he has lol #frankencart

The ARC part #6272 rod might be the only choice these days. That is exactly what the gen 2 VC 460's came with. Short of running a nitro engine is probably the best choice anyway. Both ARC and NR racing show it being in stock on line.

While I was waiting on my new billet rod (thanks for the direction Raydhd), I went ahead and broke down the engine. I swapped the valve springs for heavy duty springs (35# I think?). I added HD rockers and have some chromoly lengthened push rods as well.

I removed the cam and balancer shafts, but will wait for the new rod before pulling the crank. Piston is out and ready. I'm glad I decided to take this all apart as I found a bunch of gunk in the rod bearing oil ports as well as the piston rings were not spaced out (all the ring gaps were aligned above each other. Bad/lazy assembling).

I'm not sure if I will keep the balancer in the final build, and even if I keep it I don't see any alignment marks on the cam gear for it! I'll have to do some research on how to align the balance lobe with the crank.

Finished up rebuilding the gas tank with new fill cap, level gauge, vent and siphon gaskets and new lines/filters.

New carpet installed, new battery box, and rebuilt the dashboard that was starting to crack apart.

I'm also working on adding a forward/reverse shifter. The G1 didn't have a gear selector, and I didn't want to mount one onto the fiberglass body directly, so I thought an old school floor shifter would be kinda on theme here.

With time on your hands and while it is apart there is a WHOLE lotta power in working the head. Cleaning up the valve pocket and guide area along with unshrouding the valves makes an incredible difference thru the whole power band. Just a thought

A cool shifter mod was pioneered by TheNewGuy. Let me see if I can find the thread. I actually used his idea with his help way back when, it worked great. On his Geep1 cart he mounted 1/2" round bar with a black ball knob, it's very cool!

Edit: Here it is post #260

Raydhd - I do plan to grind out the intake and exhaust channels but wasnt sure how precise I needed to be. I'm hoping we are talking just eyeballing an air grinding Dremel wheel type exercise. Any other "free power" things I should consider?

Slonomo - yes that's exactly what I was thinking. Just goes to show there is never an original thought on the net anymore, but at least it proves I'm not crazy to try it. Thanks for posting the link as I needed to picture the front cable retention bracket weldment.

Not free but not expensive is the autolite AR3910X spark plug. It gives you a very noticeable power increase. I have seen dyno figures with 1/2-1 hp gain. Whatever it actually is you can feel it. Besides my cart I have switched over all my generators. PaulsKarts claims that is you unshroud the valves 1/8 of an inch straight off the valve seat there is a big gain there. Also not done was really shaping the pyramid around the valve guides. When I pull the head off my long rod engine to go on Omega I will do these 2 items. There was not all the specific head work advice out there in 2016 on the big clone when I did my head so I copied methods used on SBC's . P.S. Be sure to put Nord Locks on you exhaust studs as everything else I tried resulted in a loose exhaust header over time. Since using the Nord's zero problems

I should add if you want to turn some RPMs the stock cam stops revving hard @ about 4500 even with high ratio rocker arms.
