Default Valve adjustment

What's the best and easiest way to get tdc. I alway thinking i got tdc but after all the work and adjustment the engine seems harder to start. I used a screwdriver into sparkplug

Use a pencil. You don't want to put anything metal in there. A Popsicle stick, dowel rod, something wood or plastic. What I do is take the plug out, insert stick, then watch the valves. When the exhaust valve is closing, that's coming up on TDC, right before the intake valve opens.

I always set them when one valve is all the way down. So when the exhaust valve is all the way open, set the intake lash. Vice versa. For clones the rule of thumb has been .002" intake and .003 exhaust. But recently I set mine right at 0" for fun, saw that on a go kart racing site. Ran it for several hours now and it runs good. If you set them too loose they will rattle and tick like crazy.

Well either way as long as you are very careful you will be fine. You can also look in the cylinder with a flashlight through the spark plug hole.
