High voltage club car DS gas
All,
I recently washed my cart and after drying it out, noticed an unexplainable intermittent sputter. I changed the fuel, added some heet, you name it. Still did it. I should also say it was running great before I washed it. Since I had the cart home for the winter I decided to installed a USB outlet for phone charging which also happened to have a digital volt meter installed. I noticed that when the intermittent sputtering starts, the voltage goes up to around 18.5 volts but when it’s running smooth it’s right around 12.9 or so. I’m a little stumped on this one. Anyone got ideas? Thanks in advance |

Re: High voltage club car DS gas
Might be the voltage regulator coincidentally starting to die. 18ish volts is what you get when the field wire goes full ground.
How often does it do this? If you disconnect the yellow wire at the voltage regulator the battery will not charge… but the engine doesn’t need the battery to run. Just start. So you can drive it for weeks without the battery charging depending on how often you use the cart. If you don’t notice the voltage spike and the stumble with that yellow wire disconnected then VR probably going south |

Thanks for the replies guys. To answer Richard, I didn’t power wash but I did use a degreaser on the engine compartment. I will disconnect the yellow wire and check it out. I’ll let you guys know what happens. Thanks again.

Re: High voltage club car DS gas
All, I finally got around to checking the voltage regulator. I unhooked the yellow wire and it ran like a different cart. It’s interesting the failing voltage regulator gave symptoms of a fuel / ignition issue. Definitely learned something. Thanks guys!

Re: High voltage club car DS gas
Could also be a bad ground on the regulator so check that as well.

Re: High voltage club car DS gas
If the voltage isn’t regulated it will put a load on the motor through the pulley.
