G16 intermittent starting
G16 Gas with new battery this spring. For some reason Hit pedal and nothing. Doesn’t mater if motor is cold or warmed up. To get it to start i turn key on and off really quick a few times. Then it will start right up. It does not do it all the time. Could it be the solenoid?

Re: G16 intermittent starting
typically its 1 of 3 things most common ive seen is starter brushes, then start stop switch at the pedals and then the key switch itself also check negative connection to be sure its connected.
check sticky section for cart wont start and there are things you can test to see which one it is |

Re: G16 intermittent starting
if you do not here the solenoid switch click it is not the starter, more than likely it is the pedal switch first then replace solenoid next. my g 16 did the exact same thing pedal switch fixed it.

Re: G16 intermittent starting
Once my solenoid went bad, its by the passenger floor, I knew what it was because the cart would be dead and then if I stomped on the floor in front of the solenoid it would start right up. Connections were all good, put a new one in and all was well. Pedal switch is also common one, you can jump the wires to it and use the key to turn on/off to test that.

You can use a DVM to check for power getting to the solenoid when you hit the gas pedal to narrow down the culprit. I have also had the case of a bad ground to the solenoid (small black wire). |

Re: G16 intermittent starting
Mine did it yesterday but I could hear the click. I pushed it a bit and it started right up.

G16 intermittent starting
Bought $18 brushes. Tested starter on work bench. It turned over. Put it in cart. Cart started right up and ran fine. Now day later it wouldn’t start 3 times. Do brushes need to wear in? Or is it something else? Last week before work was done it was 25 times it would not start.

Re: G16 intermittent starting
If your starter generator has a shorted segment, it will get stuck often, and it'll eat brushes.
Next time it "only clicks", turn the starter just a little by hand & I bet it fires right up. (But NOT while pressing the pedal, itll probably liberate your finger - that's very bad) |
