Friend fell though the ice in Ky. when I was young so I guess I am a little chicken.
When that pic was taken, the ice was almost 2 feet, the water about 15 feet. If you look to the far left of the pic there is a full size Ford truck tail light. We also landed a Cessna 172 on the ice that day.
I generally dont go out there with the sled or the cart unless there are trucks out there........I'm not the one that's gonna test it

Be my luck I would hit a thin or weak spot.
And you would find me in the spring.

The first year we were out here, they pulled 11 cars out of the ice. The next year there was 2 total. We've been here 10 years and 8 years ago was the last time anyone went through the ice.

You need a big boat to pull a car out of the water!

I'm with ya Hook. And yep, there are some brilliant people around here. It'll be 50 deg all week, snow on Friday, and some idiot is always ready to take his snowmobile on the ice cause "there's snow on it"

one of the funniest 'Ole from the Great White North" stories I've ever heard is the guy who takes his retriever ice fishing, throws a stick a dynamite to open the hole, dog fetches it and comes back to them with the stick still lit, gets yelled like hell at for bringin it so he hides under the guys brand new truck..........urban legend, or true???
