Re: 1/8th mile best speed
GB,
THE HAYWOOD MOTOR IS OUR DESIGN, WE MANUFACTURE AND TUNE IN HOUSE, MOST OF THE TIME BATTERY MANUFACTURES AND SUPPLIERS HAVE NO REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE WITH THIS TYPE OF RACING. ALL THEY CAN DO IS SPECULATE. WITH OUR CONTROLLER WE ARE NOT LIMITED TO 550AMP DRAW, WE CAN TUNE TO WHAT WE NEED FOR A GIVEN SITUATION AND WITH THE CONFIGURATION OF BATTERIES I CAN ACHIEVE THE AMP DRAW I NEED |

I DON'T KNOW ABOUT A/C SET UP THAT COULD HAVE BEEN WHAT THEY WERE REFERING TO, I WOULD THINK YOU WOULD HAVE TO HAVE ENOUGH AMPS AVAILABLE TO COVER THE POTENTIAL DRAW OF THE MOTOR |

Re: 1/8th mile best speed
I know in the past when I have talked to the so call battery experts. The first thing they would ask about would amp draw. That seemed to set the tone for the rest of the conversation. But now with the new pack of A123, question of amp draw never came up. But when I did bring it up. I was told with this battery that amp draw was of no concerns. Maybe I should of found out what that meant.

Re: 1/8th mile best speed
I enjoy to read speed-thirsty racers here... bring it on boys!
The amp draw is the amount of energy you can take out of a battery in a given time without damage to components. This is related also with charging amperage and the flexibility of certain materials to hold up the heavy charge/discharge requirements. This is why the Tesla Roadster -to give a real life example- can hold up 0-60 in 3.9 secs, their battery technology and high amperage draw. It is always better to have a BMS (Battery Monitoring/Mangement (Control) System) that works hand in hand with controller to avoid battery damages. This is an interesting article about their batteries you all should read; http://www.teslamotors.com/display_d...terySystem.pdf |

Re: 1/8th mile best speed
gaston,
What determines the amount of amp draw, motor or controller. And how would we figure out if it was a safe amount for the size of our battery pack. |

Re: 1/8th mile best speed
AC or DC once your CEMF rises enough you can't force any more current through the motor regardless of controller setting.
