Default Ameri-Torque caliper disc brake

Has anyone tried these Ameri-Torque caliper disc brake on a CC DS in the past couple of years? Looking for info on their quality of stopping power, ease of mounting, durability/longevity , and quiteness. Looking for anyone with experience or knowledge on these.

I'm in the middle of a build and installed them. They are easy to install and seem well built. Haven't tried them yet to test stopping power or noise issues.

There are lots of people here using the Ausco cable disc brakes. I have a set on a TXT48. We used to be a dealer for this company. See my install thread here >

They do stop quicker. Their only downfall might be dragging shoes.

Does 'dragging shoes' equal noise or what other type of problem?

What kinda of disc brakes do you handle now?

The Ausco set up is really good. Problem is since they aren’t a true hydronic type system that you find in a car or truck, so the pads aren’t released as efficiently and can “drag” or remain with some lite pressure on the discs.

Is that where the noise come from, or just premature wear?

Could generate some noise. Yes they'll wear faster if they are always generating friction with the rotor. But mostly it makes your motor work harder, depletes your battery pack charge more quickly and slows you down. With all the money and effort that goes into getting as much power into your battery pack, you don't want to waste it by running with your brakes on all the time.

Conclusion:
I'm still running the original set shown in the install video linked above. After hearing customer complaints about pad noise I investigated and found the pads dragging. The cause is there is no mechanical function pulling the pads away from the disc when not in use.
I observed one side dragged more than the other. Several users said adding washers to better align the caliper with the disc resolved the dragging issue. I followed suit with good results. But the noise and drag returned after a couple of months. I have not investigated the problem further. The brakes still work good. The cart is plenty fast (as ever) and still stops good. And it even tries to roll away. Indicating the drag is minimal. To be clear there never was any noise running above 2-3 mph.
This is a pretty good system given anybody with level 2 skills can install them and they offer significantly more stopping power. Plus they have the HD hub integrated needed to repair or prevent the common Ezgo hub failure. The system could be improved with the addition of a return spring to pull the actuation lever back thus pulling the pads away from the disc rather than just releasing pressure letting the disc push the pads away.
Alternative:
Early on we partnered up with wheelsca who made a 4 wheel hydraulic brake kit. The Flag cart was their first 4 wheel install. We sold this kit for years but, most DIYers could not get through the install without difficulty. To be fair the system was fairly involved & bleeding of 1/4" lines is a bich.
This kit is still available somewhere on the web. Use your own search engine.
BGW sponsor Cartparts sells the Ausco cable break kits. Find them on the BGW sponsor page.
We bowed out of our dealership due to sales restructuring which ended our ability to compete fairly.
