Predator 22hp 670cc Engine Swap
Hey everyone. I live in Chandler, Arizona and I am looking for someone nearby, here in Arizona, that can help me with my golf cart. I had the original engine swapped out with a Predator 22hp 670cc engine, but the guy who did the work didn't do it correctly. My cart has very little torque and only a top speed of maybe 18-20mph. I'm sure I need a new clutch, torque converter, etc. What I really need is someone who knows how to do the work properly. Any help/advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

There is a wealth of knowledge here - you’ll find what you need!
I grew up in Tempe, when Chandler was a wide spot in the road. A lot of change there since then! Welcome! |

Re: Predator 22hp 670cc Engine Swap
Driven clutch possibly. It looks like someone took it apart (maybe to swap the spring or change the preload) when putting it back together they put the ramps on the wrong side. When torque is applied the way it is now the driven clutch wants to open up quick and hold no resistance. Also belt is pulled into the driven clutch which would be similar to taking off in 2nd or 3rd gear with a manual transmission vehicle. I'd start by taking the driven clutch off, rotating it back so it contacts the other side of the ramp. Starting there will fix the clutch issue which should also help the belt ride further up on the clutch when starting off.

Re: Predator 22hp 670cc Engine Swap
Highlighted Yellow is your current setup
Highlighted Red is how you should rotate it when you take it apart Circled in Blue might be worth looking into eventually. It looks like at the end of the clutch there is a thick washer, spacer then washer. Possibly didn't want to buy a shorter bolt so put the spacer in. Likely won't be an issue, but for a $5 bolt at Fastenall it would make me feel better and make the swap 1 less thing that draws negative attention. |
