Default G2a possible transmission problem

Searched the the forum and came up empty on this one. I purchased a lifted 87 yamaha g2a and have been modding the crud out of it. While going over the whole this first I took the drive belt off to replace and noticed that while in gear I can rotate the driven clutch on the transmission input shaft from about the 12o'clock position to about 2-3 o'clock position with audible noise of engagement at the end before either wheel start to move. Now I have not noticed anything out of the norm while driving it but this seems like I may have issues in there. Can anyone confirm on theirs before I tear it out? Much appreciated! - in Maine

Is it fully engaged in reverse or forward?

Drain the oil and see if any metal filings or larger pieces come out in oil.
