Default 1997 Club Car too slow with new batteries

I have a 1997 Club Car Ds and just put brand new batteries reading 50.9 across the spread. It takes off with nice power but seems to to have enough top end speed. When I bought it five years ago it was faster than it is now. ANy suggestions or help would be appreciated.

give em time to break in. follow scottyb's procedure, it does work.
mine sucked when the batts were new too, kinda disapointed, but stayed at the charge cycles and blammo, its happy and I is too.
I had to initially charge my pack for 16+ hours

Yep, powdercoater is right, new batts are only at 75% of their potential.

While it's true new batteries increase in capacity after break-in, they won't however, increase in voltage after break-in. Voltage = speed so you have a problem elsewhere. I'd start by looking at the high current cables, excessive corrosion equals resistance and that lowers voltage by turning it to heat.

He might need to "overcharge" his pack for longer duration than the timer due to pack voltage being low, when mine were new, it took a good long charge cycle to get them up to voltage. Then since then, it seems to want to run forever.

I dont think it is the batteries. I over charged them for a couple times and still it is slow and hates hills. The pack has the right voltage and I replaced ann the cables between batteries to keep from loosing power there. It takes off with power but has limited top end and speed.

. . . check the SG of the cells . . . even new batteries can be defective . . .
