Default 12" wheels 23" Tires Freedom chip = burning up controller?

I have a 2006 EZGO PDS with 12" wheels and 23" tires, my question is if i add the freedom chip will i burn up the controller? Does the controller have to be upgraded? The cart without the chip seems slow and this is the reason i wanted to add it. I have a set of fairly new trojan batteries. My other cart is gas so i am kind of lost with this electric one. All input is helpful.

Well, i installed the chip. Seems to improve speed slightly.....i wouldn't say it was a huge improvement but def seems faster. I guess my next step would be a bigger controller.

Welcome to BGW!

The controller will fail. You need to upgrade the controller, solenoid, & cables.

All the battery connections have been upgraded to 4g wires. I drove it around for about 10 minutes and seemed fine. Might just be a matter of time until the controller upgrade has to happen but i have read in a couple different places that people have no problems using stock setup with speed chip.....hope they were right.

Was motor swap/controller swap simple?

Thumbs up Re: 13" wheels 23" Tires Freedom chip = burning up controller?

If you drive the cart on flat ground pretty much it's fine. If you use it to hunt then you will need a higher amp controller.
My 04 PDS with stock 300amp controller is still working.
My tires are 23" also. Never had any problems with it on the flat roads at the beach.

Andy, it will be driven in the yard but not really any major hills just some grass. I think the next move is the 400amp controller with upgraded solenoid with the stock motor for now.

Wink Re: 13" wheels 23" Tires Freedom chip = burning up controller?

Mine has seen 13 mile round trips with 2-4 people on it running 20MPH for extended times and it's fine. Drove it on the beach a bunch with 2-4 people. They are tougher than they get credit for. Mine has been anyway.

Great info, i don't drive it for miles upon miles at a time so hopefully it holds up for a while.

btw, your cart looks awesome!

My neighbor runs the crap out of his exact same set up, has been for almost a year with no issues, of course it's all flat ground, streets and flat grass.... I went ahead and upgraded my controller, runs much better than the stock one, espically with a load.
