Battery discharge

New to forum as a new cart owner. Purchased a 2002 club car for general use. Cart charged well for the first few times, now lights go on after limited usage. After charging one battery registers 6.6 volt the rest are in the range of 8.8 to 9.1. Can one battery create this problem of discharge? The batteries were pruchased in 2006. Any thoughts would bw welcome.

1 bad battery can cause discharge. Get all checked.

That's BAD battery. Just had a customers cart in for service with NEW batteries (I won't say what or where they were purchased), but one of the batteries was bad. 48 volt carts are very voltage needy, one issue and you know it right away...

With a 2 yr old battery pack you may not want to introduce a new battery? Maybe better to try and find a used battery of the same age, make, & voltage (+-1/10).... New and old batteries charge at very different rates.....

Its not that the one bad battery discharges the other, it prevents the other from being charged because its internal resistance is high.

between 8.8-9.1 (fully charged)
More than likely what is happening is since the total Psck voltage is taken down by 2.25V. by the bad battery and a 48V cart is essentially dead at 48 Volts then , in effect the
pack and therefore the designed(48 Volt) system never really gets charged.
The charger would only shut off after reaching it's TimeOUT of XX hours.

As scottyB says , if you buy a used battery make sure it is the same Manufacturer and
model , since charge and discharge rates Vary greatly by Manf. and Model :)

Thanks for the replies. After an overnight stay with no usage I find that the batteries have all lowered voltage. The battery light is on. I checked the voltage some are are 8.3 some at 7 and one at six. It appears something is causing a discharge even when the unit is off. Any thoughts.

Charge the cart disconnect the charger wait 15-30 min.
Check Voltage again replace bad battery(s)

The only way I can think to check this recharge, wait 30-45 minutes & record voltages. Disconnect the cart from the pack. Wait 12 hours and look at the voltages again.....An 8v battery holding 6v is a bad battery and the 7 isn't good either in my book. The key here in in the differences between batteries when they are all tied together doing a job.
If the majority of my batts are 8.3, I don't want any of the others more than a 1/10 of a volt different. But, hey, that's just me......
