Default Ezgo rxv not making 18 holes of golf

Hi I have a 5 year old ezgo rxv 48 volt.

I’ve looked after my batteries every month topping levels up and cleaning terminals.
My cart has started to struggle to make 18 holes of golf and then going from 1/2 full on the gauge to straight to orange light and flat.

Recently I’ve had a 48volt to 12 volt converter installled for my lights. All working okay ,but not sure if it’s just a coincidence that I’m now having battery trouble.

The friend that installed the converter had to put the yellow cable (constant 12 volt) to the positive on one of the batteries rather than onto the ingnition switch.

I’ve checked the batteries with a volt meter and get a reading around 12.30 on 3 of the batteries and just under 12.0 on the other.(after 9 holes of golf)

I’m booked in to pick 4 new batteries tomorrow so just hope someone can help, before I spend $1500 on new batteries if I don’t need them.
Thx
Mike

5 years isn't too bad for a set of batteries. You might consider six 8 volt batteries, though you'll need to change your battery tray.

Sounds like your reducer is on 24/7, so that's likely draining your batteries.

Thanks for the quick reply.

The yellow cable from the converter is actually connected to the battery that showing under 12 volts.I presume I could move this cable and attached to the ingnition switch.I just need to find which cable to attach it too.
Thx

Do not mess with any of the RXV wiring. Not unless your wanting to buy another controller.

The correct place to connect the trigger wire is the large terminal of the solenoid that connects to the controller B+ input. Opposite of the one connected to the battery pack +. Connecting it to the keyswitch can result in a damaged controller, as the 3 keyswitch output lines are connected to three +48V digital inputs of the controller. They are not intended to drive any other circuits or loads. To do so risks damage to the controller.

You need to buy your batteries elsewhere at that price

RXVs are very sensitive, so be careful.

It sounds as if your new reducer is taxing that one battery. Putting it on a new switch may help, this way you can shut off the new reducer and not have to worry about the finicky nature of the RXV.

The only safe way to wire a "3 wire style DC converter" on a rxv electric. This diagram only includes the DC converter 48v wires, doesn't include it's 12v output wires. It is your duty to verify wire colors, they are not all the same.

This example is the 4x 12v version of the rxv. In general, on a rxv, the solenoid is on anytime the key is on, so don't worry about only having lights when you are moving.
