Default 98 DCS Keeps going into DCS mode

Friend recently purchased a Model # E198. Runs OK for a few minutes then drops into DCS mode (2 mph). Stays that way until a recharge or battery disconnect/reconnect. Pack voltage is good at 38V before and after it goes into DCS mode. Looking at the solenoid (White-Rodgers 70-120224) and it's mounted upside down. The small terminal wires seem to be wired correctly (Blue is now on the left and the yellow is on the right). The large terminals however are connected as if the unit was mounted right side up (battery connected to the right side, controller to the left side). Could this be causing the DCS condition?

The solenoid is not effected by which side the battery or control cable is on or which side the (+) or (-) activation wires are on. The solenoid may be welding itself closed (sticking)? Or operating voltage may be dropping below acceptable levels.

Correction to my last post. The blue wire is currently on the right and the left side has red, yellow & white wires. See attached picture. Before we try to flip the solenoid, I would like to confirm the correct positions of the wires. I have the 97 Service Manual but it does not show the detail of the wires connected to the small solenoid posts...at least I can't figure them out.

Thanks for the quick reply ScottyB. Iposted my last before realizing you answered. I have a replacement solenoid available for testing so I would just like to know where the wires for the small terminals should be positioned.

I think I found it in the Service Parts manual, pg F-6. Will let you know how it works out.

Problem was isolated to one weak battery. Replaced and running well now.

Thanks for getting back to us. Remember everybody - The solenoid requires (+) and (-) at the small posts to activate. It does not make a difference if the (+) is on the right or left side, just so long as there is (+) on one small post and (-) on the other.

This holds true for ALL solenoids and is commonly referred to as the activation circuit.
