Motor upgrade?
Ok I have upgraded to 4ga wires, heavy duty F&R switch, and the Alltrax SR48500 controller. I don't need the speed for 95% of what I do so I really don't want to bother converting to 48v. Cart runs fine and will climb anything with 3-4 people onboard. However, it feels like I'm really tearing the motor up when I'm climbing a steep 30+% grade and doing 3-4 mph using full throttle.
If the stock motor is fine doing that on a regular basis, I'm ok with it. If that will burn out the motor sooner rather than later, I'd like to go ahead and get an upgraded motor. So the question is...should I get an upgraded motor and if so, what should I get? D&D motor, plum quick bandit, something else? |

Re: Motor upgrade?
I think the Admiral B1 motor should be considered in that line up too

Re: Motor upgrade?
I've been loving my D&D torque motor since installing it.
Does anything I've asked of it so far, including chugging through a good amount of mud while hunting, hauling a 5x8 utility trailer from the back yard to the front, hauling 4 passengers around the subdivision with a couple of good hills and I even used it with a tow strap attached to my hitch to pull heavy limbs/vines out of the trees in my backyard after hurricane Matthew. |

Re: Motor upgrade?
Ok thanks. Talked to someone at D&D this morning and he recommended either the 2:1 motor for some torque and extra speed or the 10:2 motor for more torque at the expense of some speed.
After a little discussion, I think my motor is just on it's last legs so any motor will perform better but it'd be pretty dumb IMO to just buy another stock motor considering the price. |

Re: Motor upgrade?
To put the comparison in better perspective.
If the 2:1 motor is their 170-002-0001, it is supposed to have a bit over 14% higher top speed and about 10% more torque throughout the RPM spectrum. If the 10:1 Motor is their 170-010-0002, it is supposed to have roughly the same top speed as a stock motor with 30% more torque throughout the RPM spectrum. Both motors have a physically longer case than the stock motor, which gives them higher torque due to larger (longer) armature and field windings. The longer case also has a higher heat dissipation factor than the stock length case. |

A few other companies that have good reputations are Plum Quick, AMD and EMP. I'd give each a call or email and give them what components you're currently running and what your need is of the motor and see what they recommend and compare prices. |
