Default 36 Volt Motor gets Hot!

I'm hoping someone here can help me out. I've got a 2000 model 36 volt electric club car. I lifted it 6 inches and installed 23 inch tires on it. I also bought the car with high speed rear end gears in it. Now that I'm done with the lift and tires the motor gets hot when running the car very long. Since the car has trouble pulling itself up hills wth 2 people on it, I'm assuming I need to go back to a standard set of rear end gears, but will this correct the issue of the motor getting hot? Does anyone have any opinions on this?

I've also upgraded all the wires to 2 gauge 600 volt wires and this cart has the older style coil resisters in it, no controller.

I think you are right. Someone has put taller gears in the cart which makes the cart go faster in the top end but works the motor harder. Now you have put taller tires on it. Essentially increasing the final drive gears again. It is no wonder the little stock motor is getting HOT.

So for my case, which is best, change the gears or the motor or both? The problem I have changing the gears is my cart has the Kaw rear end and finding a set of used standard gears for this is about impossible, and I can buy a new upgraded motor for the same money are a new set of factory gears. I don't know if I can upgrade my motor though because my cart doesn't have a controller?????

I think stock OEM gears are available. You may want to send your motor out to be rewound for torque at EMP >> http://www.empinc.biz/. Seems to me you you might be able to find someone near you who would want to trade straight across! After all, lifted carts don't really need high speed gears IMO. They do sell upgrade motors for all types of carts (yours is a series motor with resistor coils)
Where are you at?

yes, I have a series motor with resistor coils. I'm located in Southeast IA. And yes I agree I really have no need for the high speed gears, the cart currently runs 26 MPH on flat ground and I don't need that. I'm just having a hard time finding a set of used standard gears for the Kaw rear end. It's my understanding that club car didn't produce a lot of cars with this rear end in them. Most were produced with the Graz rear ends.
