1994 EZGO Marathon NO SPARK!
I just picked up a 1994 Marathon with 4 stroke robbins motor. The guy said there is no spark (which is true) he said he replaced the coil but still nothing. I busted out my multimeter to test ground (ground from motor to battery was 12v) check. Tested the voltage to the coil (10.7V) I think thats good. So now im checking the pulsar. I unplugged it and rist tested the ohms. It was around 350-357 ohms. To double check I tested A/C voltage. It reads .11V before I order a new pulsar I just wanted everyones input if they think its bad. Also there is a sensor that is supposed to be hooked up to something next to the pulsar. Anyone know what that is and what it's supposed to be hooked up to? Thanks in advance for all your help!

sounds like it could be your igniter.

Re: 1994 EZGO Marathon NO SPARK!
those pulsar numbers are OK for a 4-stroke, I'm leaning towards the ignitor myself - BUT, instead of investing $100+ in an ignitor (which unfortunately there is no way to test) you could always search "HEI Mod" here on the forum, and do that - it's basically replacing a $100+ ignitor with a GM HEI module (around $22-26 at NAPA or Advance Auto Parts) - without a signal from the ignitor (or if you do the swap, HEI) your coil cannot function, even if it's getting proper voltage (which it seems to be). Take into account that your pulsar is generating the requisite AC voltage, and the only "missing link" that's obvious is the ignitor. Swap it for a $22 HEI and you will likely be JUST fine

I think the other wire you asked about is for carts with a low oil indicater light.

I thought the pulsar should be around 150 ohms and .5V A/C

Re: 1994 EZGO Marathon NO SPARK!
I've seen them up in that ridiculous 250-300 range and work just fine (in fact, the one I ordered brand new came in at 210) - the important part is that it's generating AC (even though .11 IS low it should still be sufficient to trigger the ignitor/ HEI).
But yes, factory "spec" is 150 - even if they ship them at 210, I guess :) |
