What would you build ?
This is my first post and you will be able to tell that I am new to modified carts. I live in a delta area that is almost flat and would like to modify an electric cart for hunting. If you were building a cart, which cart would you start with? What motor would you use to get about 20 mph with good torque and run time? Which controller? How much lift would you use and why? Which tires?
As you can see I need imput so I can know where to start. Of course you realize that this will only cause more questions later. Thank you for your help. Jimmynm |

Re: What would you build ?
I would definitely want a 48V cart. That leaves you with a Yamaha G19-Drive and Club Car DS-Precedent. You'll probably end up with a G19 or DS, the Drive and Precedent are fairly new carts.
6" lift, MINIMUM! Carlisle 489 tires would probably be your best bet. As for the motor, send it to EMP and have them modify it for better performance. Get a 400 or more amp controller. (No resistors, get a controller cart!) |

Re: What would you build ?
Definately go with a controller cart...Doesn't HAVE to be a 48 volt cart. Most 48 volt carts are newer and will cost a little more. 36 volt cart an be had for less and of coarse in the future you could always upgrade if needed. For a motor I would opt or a low speed torque motor. Something like an EMP or a Beast motor will give you all the torque you need and good run time.
You don't want to much motor or your run time will decrease. The low speed torque motors will give the better run times over a high speed motor. |

Re: What would you build ?
From what you are saying, a Club Car I.Q. with speed upgrade and lift goes right at 20mph..... It has enough torque to do what you are saying.
There is a certain beauty in leaving stock parts in a car, when things break it's easier to replace etc... Lift kit, go with a Jakes Spindle lift.. It's durable...... |

Re: What would you build ?
I.Q. carts seem to cost more. Especially in the replacement parts department.
Do some research before buying. Keep in mind the plans you have for it like lift kits, tires and wheels and motors. |

Re: What would you build ?
if you are going to replace the electrical i.e. new controller and motor then buy the older cars, (provided they are 48v.) If you buy a 2003, you are just paying more for stuff you are going to replace..

Re: What would you build ?
IMO... The '99 sounds like the best deal.
Our '98 was a "Plain Jane"... when we bought our camper, the cart came with it, but we figured it ran us about $850 We have about $3200 invested in it, WITHOUT speed/torque upgrades. (6" lift, wheels and tires, 6 Batteries, cut in headlights, horn, steering wheel, SS rockers, rear fold down seat, a windshield... and a bunch of other small misc. stuff!) It has very good "longevity", Quiet, fun to ride, and would make a great hunting vehicle (if I was a hunter!) My 32,000 cents Last edited by lockman1; 10-26-2007 at 03:14 AM..
