Question Swap a 18HP and a 16HP in my cart???

My 18HP Vanguard has a cracked rod. Can I put a 16HP in its place without replacing headers, motor mounts, etc? Anyone done this before?

If it is just a cracked rod why not just replace it ?

Looking worse than that. Piston badly damaged by contact with spark plug. Rebuild kit is. $400 plus new rods at $80 each. Plus whatever else it needs as I go. Better to replace and have a 3 year warranty and maybe fix this one and sell for $600 cash. Makes new one $600.

If it was a piston and rod, I would pull the bad parts, clean and hone the cylinders (if no damage to the heads) and replace the piston and rod with one off of ebay , clean the crank and emory it or whatever (or not) fire it up and see.

Or not !! LOL

It sounds like a busted rod, not a cracked rod, a little differance between the two.

I will check it out. Gotta get the time to do it now. That's the big problem.

I blew up my 18hp and swapped it for a 16hp last year. The motor swap was exact. Everything including the exhaust bolts up. Wasn't happy with with the loss of power going to a smaller engine even with the copper head gaskets and rev kit. So now I'm installing the 23hp. Unfortuneately for me the exhaust from the old engine won't match up. Had to make a call to Alpha carts to get a new one.

Yeah it's been awhile. I strayed and bought a sand rail then sold it and got a rhino. Gave that to my wife and am back with the golfcarts. Not sure why but these things are FUN!
