controller upgrade
First post, been a member of other boards in the past but just got on this one today.
Hello all, I'm about to purchase a new controller, probably the Alltrax 4844. I have a 36v 1995 Medalist with a 4 inch lift and 22 inch tires, I just want something thats reliable and that will last. I basically use the cart at the farm, the beach, and to run down to the store from my home. I've also purchased the 4ga cables, and new batteries. Should I upgrade the solenoid also? I don't think I will ever upgrade the motor but that could change. What else should I upgrade/add? Thanks in advance. |

Re: controller upgrade
you don't have to change the solenoid at this time but for the money i would go with a h/d one and be done with it,,

Re: controller upgrade
I installed this one on my upgrade. It can be used for 36 or 48 volts. You just use a different resistor to when you change voltage.

Re: controller upgrade
Gorno....I ran it at 36 volts and then upgraded to 48 volts. All I had to do was swap resistors. Carl at EVdrives sent me both resistors when he sent me the solenoid. I know it works because I ran it at both 36 and 48 volts.

Re: controller upgrade
Then why do they list a 36v unit AND a 48v unit in the drop down menu? Doesn't jive with your description. I'm curious....

Re: controller upgrade
I think the key word is AND.... 36 and 48 volts in one unit, not 36 OR 48 volts. I believe it is the same solenoid and you specify the voltage so you get the correct resistor shipped with it. If you have any questions talk to Carl at evdrives.com. He helped me a lot and he knows his stuff. I think he was an engineer at Alltrax before he started his business.

Re: controller upgrade
the electric RXV has a 36v solenoid installed from the factory. they are now being replaced by the HD 36v solenoid, but its still a 36v solenoid on a 48v cart.

Re: controller upgrade
I think we are all beating a dead horse with the solenoid thing.........push the pedal down and it works or it doesn't. Batteries, controller, solenoid, motor, that just about sums it up. It's not a jet........
