If a weak or no spark condition exists, the following tests can be conducted using an ohm meter.
Pulser Coil Disconnect the red/white and white/green wires. Measure resistance between them (14 ohms should be present). Check each wire for NO continuity to ground. Coil-Ignitor Disconnect brown and black wires. Measure resistance between them (350 ohms should be present). Primary Winding Resistance Disconnect orange wire. Continuity should be present (1.0 ohms). Secondary Winding Continuity should be present between core and spark plug wire (plug removed). Spark Plug Gap .7mm to .8mm Timing-G1 Attach timing light and operate engine in FORWARD at approx. 1000 to 2000 rpm. Direct the timing light to the "view port" in the fan cover and observe whether the timing mark on the outer end of the fan vane aligns with the mark on the crankcase. Directing light into the port with a mirror is helpful. If the shaded area of the fan aligns with the mark on the crankcase, engine is timed. If adjustment is neccessary, the next procedure must be used. Remove the fan case, battery and spark plug. Loosen the base plate mounting screws so plate can be moved. Install a dial gauge in the plug opening and set the piston to 1.3mm BTDC by turning the flywheel in REVERSE then once again set the piston to 1.3mm BTDC while turning the flywheel in the FORWARD direction. Align the timing mark on the base with the mark on the flywheel. Tighten down base and install the fan case, spark plug and battery. |
