Well, sometimes you just gotta give in. It's frustrating when you are dealing with an old machine. Sometimes that has to change too.

Default Re: 1981 Yamaha G1 repaired

The no start problem I had was repaired by the Michigan Yamaha distributor / dealer. They found a wire that was eaten through that rendered the coil useless. It is repaired, and per the dealer, it is coming home tomorrow. Total cost was $214 including pickup and delivery. It will be here tomorrow.

Ouch, it's a shame that yamaha doesnt provide for us to replace a spark plug wire, whole coil has to be done.

Default Re: 1981 Yamaha fuel line pin hole leak

My 1981 G1 with the repaired coil wire starts right up but after driving I could smell gas. I lifted the body and you could see evidence of we fuel by the carb. Long story short. I jacked up the rear tires, raised the body and there was a opponent hole leak in the fuel line going from the pump to the carb. A quick visit to the local lawnmower repair shop to pick up some new fuel line and pinch clamps to replace the original 39 year old fuel line. Came home and installed the new fuel line. ALL iS GOOD.

Glad you got it going! Welcome to the addiction. You know, we drive these old carts because we love them. And....we work on them too Nothing is maintenance free, so take good care of her and she'll take care of you. G1 is a tank of a golf cart.

Thanks. These carts are engineering marvels. It is 39 years old. I bought it in the mid 1990’s. One set of crank seals and a new muffler over a decade ago. I have repaired the starting solenoids numerous times. I have a complete set of the later style solenoids but have had no need to make the changeover.

DEEP CYCLE MARINE BATTERY
I did find swapping out a standard car battery with a deep cycle marine battery was a good idea since my golf cart is stored all winter in an untested shed.

REC FUEL with STABIL
I have found the use of Stabil treated recreational non ethanol pure gas helps with start up performance. Pricey, but worth it.

BOTTOM LINE cost
The repair including pickup and return was $214. The service center is a 2 hr. trip one way.
