Speed Code vs. Controller
Hey guys, I have a 2015 Electric Yamaha G29 and I have been on the fence on whether to go to the dealer and get the speed code upgrade or to purchase a new controller to speed it up. Cart has a 3” lift and 20” tires installed and I am getting about 13-14 mph on flat road. We drive it mainly around town but have a busier road that we have to go down that is pretty hilly and the cart really slows down going uphill. I’m thinking for that alone I should go with the controller but wanted to see others thoughts? Is the speed code enough (cheaper) or is it worth replacing the controller for the price to help with the hills too? I don’t plan on replacing the motor unless needed later. Any recommendations would be great, thanks!
Also I read in another forum you have to replace the battery cables if you replace the controller, is that true? |

Re: Speed Code vs. Controller
No-brainer. Get an Alltrax XCT. Cam Don Plowman and Plowman's Carts 810-736-1100 and discuss his Riot Kit options. That stock tin-can motor needs to be replaced as well

Re: Speed Code vs. Controller
You can do a simple Alltrax 400 install with HD solenoid and gain 25-30 power and reach 21-22 mph with the stock motor. See the install process here > https://buggiesgonewild.com/showthread.php?t=140750

Re: Speed Code vs. Controller
Alltrax controller all the way. You will need to replace the stock motor as well at some point. I did the XCT 500 amp controller and it is amazing. I can run 30+ on stock tires. (after I swapped out the motor as well). With stock motor I could run 24 but motor got hot. I actually took the motor out and cleaned it, new brushes, and bearings. It was probably good for a lot longer but I went ahead and upgraded.

Re: Speed Code vs. Controller
Thanks guys, think you made up my mind for me. I looked at scottyb’s site, sounds like best bet is to go with a 2 gauge wire upgrade too?

Re: Speed Code vs. Controller
In order to maintain your controller warranty, appropriate sized cables are required. 6g cables arent appropriate for any controller larger than stock.

Re: Speed Code vs. Controller
I did 100% 2 Gauge welding cable throughout. It is important. 6 gauge can't handle it and 4 is still a little too small. Wires get hot.

Re: Speed Code vs. Controller
When upgrading the controller and solenoid with stock motor, what kind of battery life should you expect before needing a charge? Or what kind of distance before a significant performance drop?
