Cushman/ EZgo S4 has engine swap
Just got my first gas golf cart about 2 years ago. It’s a Cushman/EZgo S4 with the 13.5hp engine. I street legalized and tagged it here in Florida. I raised the limiter to 4000rpm, with stock gears I’m cruising at like 27mph. I want to get more power so I can keep up with the cars at 35-40mph. I know a engine swap is in my future. Problem is I know nothing about doing it myself. Looking at the B&S 23hp swap I think. I’m in South Florida, and suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks guys!

Re: Cushman/ EZgo S4 has engine swap
A bigger engine won't make the cart have a faster top speed. A 23 Vanguard will still go 27mph it will just get there 2x quicker. If you install a rev kit in the Vanguard you can rev to 5000 rpm, but that's pushing the limits of the engine. Safe cruising rpm is 4000-4500 rpm. So at 4500 rpm you might get 30 mph.
What you need is a gear swap to get more mph. 8:1 or 6:1 gears will get you a higher top speed without changing anything else. The disadvantage is that your hill climbing ability and towing ability will be greatly affected. Read this thread https://www.buggiesgonewild.com/showthread.php?t=172255 |
