Default Attaching metal plates for a roof

Hey everyone, I've got a 1972 Harley gas golf cart that I bought a few months ago. Stripped it all down and did a little fiberglass repair and repainted it. The previous owner attached a roof with some metal square tubing attached by the pedals in the front and plates screwed into the back.
I was completely oblivious and didn't notice how torn up it was around the plates in the back and today they finally broke through. So I was wondering if i could just attach a bigger plate to the area for more support and to distribute the weight better or if i should look for a new area entirely to attach it. I attached some pics of the base of the plates & tubing and the cart itself. You can just barely make out the thin layer of fiberglass between the 2 plates.
Thank You!

What does the rest of the top frame look like? Was it only supported in those two places? Wondering if its just too heavy and really needs to be re designed? If you did stay with those 2 points I would be thinking covering the whole well on both sides with some thick plywood or steel to really spread the load.

I’ll try to grab some more pictures after work, it is an EZ-Go top that he rigged to fit into the holds that he put on. But yes it has 2 front legs that fall in by the feet of driver/passenger and the 2 in the back. It definitely may be too heavy, but I think short of finding a whole new spot to rig it, a good amount of wood to buffer and hopefully spread the weight is my best shot
