Has anybody tried 16 cells?
I have a Curtis 350 amp controller , not enough knowledge to know if it would take it or not.

16 Cells would be 68 volts. I think something would give way. Plus finding a charger and BMS that would work.

If you got a 72 Volt controller, you could go with 16S. Anything else will probably not be able to handle the full charge voltage.

Just took mine to 16 cells and it runs.1 run down the road so far, no excess heat in motor or controller yet. I could get 23 mph briefly at 14 cells charging to 4.15 per cell. Now a solid 23 and change, sitting at 63.7 volts, should be good for 23 down to 58 volts by my reckoning.stock 3.2 hp ge motor, 350 amp Curtis controller, high speed magnet, 2004 cc precedent. Got to see if I can turn my charger up as it only charges to 58.2.

My reckoning was wrong.i swapped to a newer phone since I started this project, don't believe my old phone was accurate. I don't think I ever achieved 23 mph with 14 cells as there seems to be a direct corallation between voltage and mph. Motor actually runs cooler at the higher voltage, no heat in the controller heat sink either way.

Running the cart at the same speed should not run any cooler but no hotter either. The average motor voltage will be same at same speed even though the battery voltage is higher. The controller regulates the average voltage to control the speed.

So at full throttle the controller is going to put out a set voltage regardless of pack voltage providing pack voltage > required/requested ?

No - at full throttle, unless you limit the current, the controller will put out full battery voltage and your cart will go faster. If you limit the current, then the controller may not put out full voltage - if the current stays at the limit while driving.

Thanks. I tested the mph between 14 and 16s packs. I got a solid 3 mph increase with the increase in voltage. Unfortunately i am unwilling to give up my fast charging obtained with a 48 volt telecom rectifier module at this time(45 amps). The top voltage it will put out without going into overvoltage trip is 58.8. I believe that the trip circuit is there to protect the batteries and not the rectifier so might be able to disable it but i am still waiting on another module i ordered to arrive.When it gets here i will take this one down to a local electronics workshop and see if that is possible. High power rectifiers are easy to source at the 48 volt level but apparently unavailable at the 60 volt level although i am still looking. The 1 i am using is rated at 30 amps puts out 45, cant wait to see what the 50 amp one i ordered puts out. Talk about overbuilt!
