Hot Motor
Just installed 4.8 horsepower motor with 700 amp controller in 1997 club car. Runs great but motor seems to run hot. Is this because of the 700 amps running through it or something wrong?

Re: Hot Motor
How hot is hot...Yea...that combo will create some heat. As long as it doesn't start smokin you should be good to go. LOL! Make sure all your connections are good.....got 4 gauge?

Can't touch it with your hand for more than a few seconds. All 4 gauge cables.

Re: Hot Motor
I would look for a week connection somewhere. Maybe a bad crimp job. If you can't find any bad crimps check them all to make sure they good and tight.
What size tires are you running and whats the RPM limit on the motor? A high speed motor with say.....22-23 inch tires will use alot of amps if your doggin it. Amps it can't use it dissipated as heat. |

Re: Hot Motor
22' all terrain tires. Think the motor is a 4800 RPM but will have to check it when I get home. All wiring is new and crimps are good, connections are tight.

Re: Hot Motor
Your gonna have to keep an eye on those temps. It "might" be ok as long as you are carefull and don't go into meltdown.
Thats a high speed motor pulling 22" tires so its gonna get hot. A gear swap to a higher ratio gear will help keep the amps down so it wont get as hot. Are you running 48 volts? More volts = less amps. On a side note: I bet that thing absolutely flies! |
