Very nice job! Looks very professional and I like the way you created your wooden enclosure for the battery tray to keep everything dry and neat.

Default Club Car Lithium Conversion complete

Agreed..very nice install!! [emoji1360][emoji1360]. Also I agree that around 6k would be more than reasonable for what it is. I guess the main question is how long is the actual battery life? I mean of course with all the pros (run time, overall power, weight loss, maintenance) the only con would be if their lifespan was less than that of lead acid. I’ve read a lot of conflicting things as far as that goes.

time will tell on the lifespan. On the current charge, I started at 95%, and I've put about 15 miles on it and I'm down to 75%.

according to the "experts", the Leaf batteries are capable of cycling thousands of times, what I don't know is the one that these were pulled out of may have done 900 cycles already.

appreciate the positive comments on the install, this is my first one and it's been pretty cool to work with my son.

Just my 2 cents worth... If you don't exceed 3.92v / cell max charge and reduce DOD to no more than 40% the batteries will cycle 1000-1500 times easily and will probably be usable into the 2500 cycle range. Depends on the exact chemistry and how cool you can keep them. Charging them to 4.2v / cell really starts to degrade them and oxidizes the cathodes reducing life to as little as 300 Cycles.

Tesla cars carefully monitor maximum charge and DOD to get the best balance of life and performance possible. These values are adjusted depending on the chemistry and the temperatures of the batteries. When people in Florida were trying to get out of the way of the last hurricane Tesla sent a update to those owners so they could exceed DOD and max charge voltages to give them extra range. People started slamming Tesla for not giving the cars the range in the first place. They just don't understand proper long term management of Lithium Ion.

Tesla SuperChargers can greatly reduce Lithium Ion life. They will tell you they are not for daily use. Just occasional long tip use. The slower the charge the less oxidation. Slow charge rates and keeping them cool are as important as total cell voltage and DOD.

Warmer weather climates the shorter the life. Heat kills Lithium Ion.

I decided to do a golf cart project as something to do with my son. The cart was running, but needed a full set of new batteries, and instead of that, I decided to do the full conversion to Lithium Ion.

A friend lined up a good deal on an Alltrax controller, and a new 10HP motor, and he had about 30 ft. of welding cable left over from a project he did.

Pics attached that show the process. with stock tires, we GPS'd it at 24mph on flat level ground.

Where did you get the bus bars n plastic covers for ur leaf batteries

Randall,

thanks for the Lithium battery info. I currently have mine set at 4.11, will probably knock it down to the 3.92.

out of ignorance, what does DOD mean?

Wally's CC,

the battery, cells, buss bars, and covers all came from evbatterycenter.com
