Default 72V TXT or bust....

I've been planning, reading and researching 72v carts. I have received most of my parts needed to start the conversion on my '97 txt series cart. I will be using the following major components.

-24 Enersys SBS30 12v batteries
-Alltrax SPM 72400 controller
-Quick Charge select-a-charge 72v 20A charger
-Albright SW200 main contactor
-stock series motor (for now)

The number one item in any electric cart is the batteries so I started there. I had to make 24 batteries (smaller then GC batts) to fit in the stock tray as my preferred location. Turns out I only had to slightly modify one side of the stock battery tray to get 12 batteries in.

12 batteries down and 12 to go. Since my batteries are half the height of GC batts I decided to make a second deck directly over the stock tray. I used bed frame (free) to make the second deck. I used polycarbonate plastic sheet on the bottom side to insulate just in case something decided to get close. I used another thick plastic, cutting board material, to act as a solid spacer and hold down for the bottom batteries. The upper deck will lock the lower batteries in place once mounted.

Everything worked well and the body and seat still fits. Pictures are always preferred here so here's the first batch.

How hard is it going to be for you to get to your lower set of batteries for any maintenance? Looking good

Batteries are sealed AGM. No maintenance required. Individual battery replacement will require top deck batteries to be removed. Easily done even with body on. There are 4 corner bolts attaching the upper deck to the stock battery tray.

Looking Good Planet electric cars used to stack sealed batteries. With the right connections they should be maintenance free.
Each Battery looks like it is 2/6v cells in series?
Can you ID the Batteries for us?

Uh ya. Why replace it if it ain't broke? Anpother reason is budget. Have you priced 72v motors? This cart is probably the cheapest 72v conversion on this forum due to my battery connection.

The cart will run with the stock motor for a while if I keep an eye on motor temps. There are a couple members that have had 72v on stock motor for a long time.

Are they 3v cells I'm seeing then? Energsys SBS30 turns up nothing on a google search.

Scott, looks like it's Enersys (no "g"). Enersys PowerSafe SBS30 is what I found using Bing.

I don't see these as being cost effective for mere mortals given their cost and aH rating. Perhaps I'm missing something...
