Unhappy Smoking forward and reverse switch(36v Club)

New to the forum, first time posting. Here goes. Have a 91 club car reisistor with new batteries , new 4 Guage wires, lift kit, 10 inch tires. F and R switch caught fire so I replaced it, sure enough it began smoking after 2 minutes of usage, so I deconned it. I don't see any diode by solenoid, could this be my problem? Too much tire for stock??? In deep and getting tired of spending, any help greatly appreciated.

10 inch is a rim size. We need tire size. 23" tire is 30% plus over stock tires = a 30% increase in final drive ratio... = torque loss, harder working motor drawing more amperage. More amperage can melt your components if they are not sized for the job.
So HD F&R and bigger cables....... soon you'll need bigger controller and solenoid, the tires were just the start of upgrade.

Thanks guys, Appreciate the info., heard nothing but good bout you Scotty. One last question before I order your hd switch. My cart has no controller, can I get by w/just a hd switch for now? Will it still be sufficient when I upgrade? Just had a son and formula and diapers ain't cheap!

congrats on the kid ! look into 2g cables (again scottyb's) .. our early 90's carts can't do the super upgrades like the newer carts but we trade that for simple repair
