Charger Caught Fire ...
So I sell a 36V charger on Ebay. It worked perfectly before it shipped. It was packaged extremely well. The buy calls me to tell me that after 20 minutes of charging, the charger caught fire. He was even nice enough to let it burn a little while longer so he could take a picture of the flame.
In your opinion, does the cause of the malfunction sound like a charger issue or a golf cart issue? I always try to do the right things... but this seems sketchy to me. I should have bought a 4 wheeler ... Shawn |

Re: Charger Caught Fire ...
That doesn't look like a 36V charger. It looks like a PowerDrive2 48 volt charger. It looks like a rectifier fire. Very common. Replace the rectifier and the wire ends. Those things are dirt cheap.

Re: Charger Caught Fire ...
My mistake ... it is a 48V charger.
Any idea what would cause the fire though? That can't be typical can it ? |

Re: Charger Caught Fire ...
It's very common. I wouldn't be too concerned with it. Once the rectifier burns up the fire goes out. Just keep your charger away from anything else than can catch fire. I've never seen the fire actually get out of the case and catch anything else on fire.

Re: Charger Caught Fire ...
It's always a good idea to keep your charger in a nice open isolated space when charging. Good airflow is essential. Mine has a fan that kicks on and off. (Yamaha)
