1991 G9 smoking and knocking
I have a 91 G9 that runs gret but smokes a little and knocks pretty loud at higher rpms. I checked the compression it reads 160 psi. The person I bought it from said it never smoked until he put lucas oil in it to try to stop the knocking. Could lucas cause smoking like that? I am trying to figure out if its rod bearings or what the other posts talk about a counter balancer. I dont now alot about these carts but i am a little mechanical. Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: 1991 G9 smoking and knocking
If it was me. I would adjust the valves. If it still does it, drain oil and put 40w in it. If the 40w helps, you know its internal and gonna destroy itself soon. Then the decision of what to do, rebuild, clone or big block.
Valves are a light tapping, rod is usually a deep or hard tap. Good luck, Mike |
