Default No title - try this

I see a lot of title questions in this section so thought I would share this.

When I bought my 2015 Drive, it had never been titled - golf course fleet and then in Texas where titled is not required to register it. So, I called Yamaha in Georgia to see if I could get the original MSO/MCO but the answer was they are sent to the buying dealer and most of them are thrown out when the fleet is sold off. But, the very helpful gentleman at Yamaha (Phil IIRC) suggested I look into what's called a bonded title. So I did.

Basically it's posting a bond equal to the value of the cart ($118 in my case for $8,950 of coverage) to your state MVA. They then run a search on the VIN (does not have to be a 17 digit VIN - the Yamaha VIN works just fine) for reported theft and when none is found, accept the bond and issue a valid non-branded title. The bond is for three years and protects any subsequent claims of ownership (proof required). I'm not required to own if for those three years, title is fully transferable from day one.

I know this worked in Arizona and the MVA was very familiar with it and had no issue with the Yamaha VIN number versus a typical 17 digit motorvehicle number. Phil at Yamaha seemed to think this worked in most, if not all, states as they have given this advice out thousands of times, especially in Florida.

This worked in Mississippi in the early 2000's when I got my cart registered. This, pass a state inspection (which we no longer do) and insurance was all that was needed.
