WiFi Outlet for Charger Reset?
Can I use an outdoor WiFi power outlet to reset the charger?
I have my golf cart in a vacation home and I can go a several weeks between visits and I found an outdoor WiFi outlet. My theory is plug the charger into the cart and into the WiFi outlet. Turn off the outlet so that the changer is not always on and once a week when I am not there turn on the outlet which should then kick on the charger and the next day turn it off - I can even set a schedule from the app so I don’t have to manually do it. Will this work? I tested it with my drill charger and it’s working exactly as above. The battery is full and stops charging. I turn off the outlet and when I turn the outlet back on the charger kicks on and starts charging the battery. Any concerns? I have the Powerwise QE Charger? Attached is a photo of the outdoor WiFi outlet. |

Re: WiFi Outlet for Charger Reset?
Many chargers require the DC plug to be disconnected to start a new cycle, not the AC plug. You can test this yourself by unplugging the AC cord after charge completes, and replugging it to see if a new charge cycle starts. Also, be sure the little wifi switcher can carry the load required by the charger.

Re: WiFi Outlet for Charger Reset?
This method works great with my QE charger. I cycle power on the smart switch a few times a day.

I use a Wemo smart plug for my charger... but you have to be sure that the charger doesn’t need to be disconnected from the cart to reset. Most chargers do.

This is what I am hoping for. This WiFi plug is rated for 15A (1875W) which is the same at the outlet I plug it into now. |

Re: WiFi Outlet for Charger Reset?
I did that a few years ago on my club Car Powerdrive charger and helped another member do it on a Yamaha charger.
I think the charger You are referring to is the old big box so it is definitely doable, You just need to identify the "sense" wire inside the charger. Anyway, here is the thread: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...e-control.html |

Re: WiFi Outlet for Charger Reset?
Sadly - it didn’t work. The charger has to be physically removed from the cart and reinserted to restart the charging. Cycling the power does not do it. I turned off the power and waited a few hours and turned it back on and the charger did not restart. Looks like there some sensor when connected to the battery.

Re: WiFi Outlet for Charger Reset?
Too bad. Yeah, on most chargers DC power has to be disconnected to reset the relay.
