Cleaning Frame/Corrosion

Please take a look at the attached pic.

I have my DS bodywork off for paint, also took the batteries out to clean things up and tidy up some wiring. Is there a recommended procedure for cleaning/treating areas like this, especially were the battery spilled some fluids and corrosion exists? I'm thinking of coating it with automotive undercar coating after cleaning and treating.

Is there something easy I can do such as I would with a steel part that is rusted (brush off rust and coat with ospho and then paint)? I'm not looking for it to look 100% new, just don't want it to continue to get worse and want to clean it up.

Scrub down hard with a mixture of one cup baking soda and warm water mixed well. Wire brush away any corrosion. Repeat the baking soda wash. Dry and paint over if you wish...

If you have all the electric stuff off try a good pressure washer. My guess is it would take all that stuff off.

You can use aluminum coil cleaner to clean it up. It is used on HVAC systems and there are two types. The acid works much better. There is also aluminum cleaner available at welding supply's but doesn't work as fast as the coil cleaner.

Afterwards, you can clean/buffer as others have recommended.

Where would I get that coil cleaner?

mine was WAY worse than that , I would just use the baking soda mix and spray it off good , wire brush or scotch bright pads will make it pretty but that's a lot of work with no reward really...

Yea, like I said I want to coat it with undercar coating so it doesn't need to look pretty, I just don't want it to continue to corrode inside of the new coating.

From a HVAC supplier, or a place like Grainger or online. One I found online is Rectorseal 82622 but if you don't care about making it bright, then just try the baking soda, pressure washing, etc.

The best thing about using the baking soda mix is you'll know when you're done. When a fresh application of the mix doesn't fizz, you are done with that area and can move on.

then I wouldn't paint it with anything as the baking soda will do that very thing each time you clean your batteries...
