Question for those who do their own wiring
When you guys are doing your own wiring, on 12v accessories and the like, where do you buy your wire?
I'm looking for #16 or #14 stranded in copper. All the stuff I'm finding online and in the parts stores lately is "copper clad aluminum" and I don't like the way this stuff holds up. Any suggestions? |

Re: Question for those who do their own wiring
I know what you mean about the cheaper wire. I was looking for #14, also, and finally found it at O'Reily's Auto Parts. It has the same number of copper strands inside as the OEM #14 that was in my Precedent. Dumb me, I actually counted the strands in the old wire, but can't remember now how many it was, so I'd be sure to buy the right wire.

I don't know about y'all, but my worst problem with this is not the wire but the connectors I have bought from everywhere are not worth crap.

You're so right. I finally ordered some from...... (senior moment).... wiringproducts.com Nylon double crimp ring connectors. Great product. Very substantial and appear the same as OEM.

Re: Question for those who do their own wiring
I'm using all marine grade connectors with built-in heat-shrink. Decent quality and once heated up they make a nice connection.

Re: Question for those who do their own wiring
The gold standard is automotive primary wire. If you are in wet climate consider Marine wire and connectors. aka tinned.
Over the years I have experimented with filling connectors with dielectric grease prior to inserting the wire(also dipped in grease). These connections refused to corrode for the most part. |

Thanx for the leads.
I'll check out the links and stop by O'Reilly's for a look too, since they're popping up all around here lately. |
