Building new seats from scratch
Everything is ordered from Sailrite.
Ended up getting: 2 yards blue Naugahyde https://www.sailrite.com/Naugahyde-A...-Vinyl-AM37-54 6 yards white Naugahyde https://www.sailrite.com/Naugahyde-Universal-White-54 New spool white thread basting tape. order total with ship was $207 Over ordered Vinyl, Some small practice pieces and it is nice to have extra on a shelf for future repairs if needed. Going to re-use foam from old seats but modify shape and size. Pics and "Things I have learned" to follow as the project gets under way. |

Re: Building new seats from scratch
A tip that I have used when building up foam or using old foam thats still in good shape is to get some cheap 1/4" foam and cover over everything when your done. It always looks better, especially when reusing foam.

have not ordered it yet. What are thoughts on using that? I have seen couch cushions lined or wrapped where the most wear ends up. Thats why I thought of using it. |

If you are talking the Dacron stuff for your poly blanket that will work great. Also x2 on the turkey knife for shaping.

Re: Building new seats from scratch
So it begins. All of the vinyl is here, stopped at the Fabric shop and bought a large sheet of Batting, and some new foam for the front seat back.
Still cant find my walking foot attachment (I know it I am looking right at it) Building the rear seats first trying to work out any kinks. I know I am going too far, but I am going to coat all of the wood with resin for waterproofing and a bit more strength. Added the T-Nuts to the base about to add them to the back. Need to drill the relief holes as well. |

Re: Building new seats from scratch
Found the Walking foot. Yes is was right under my nose in its original box at bottom of my sewing kit. Looked over it 10 times.
Have some pics of the rig, and of the first stitches. Feeling pretty confident now, Just have to keep everything strait, sewing and install. RN If you are seeing this, I did have some difficulty with the thread unwinding and subsequently wrapping, So I went to the fab shop (turned right around in my seat) and fixed a thread hanger to the machine and it seams good now. |
