Default Yamaha G16 start problem

I have a Yamaha G16 2001. When I press the gas pedal to start the starter and clutch rotates a little bit and stops, if I continue to keep pressing the gas pedal it will rotate, stop, rotate a little more and stop. It does this more when first start of the day. but gets better as the cart is warmed up, but let it set for 10-15 minutes it does the same rotate and stop problem. New battery, starter generator checked at repair shop and is good, new solenoid, new clutch. I am stumped, got any ideas?

Have you watched it start? Another words, put the cart in neutral, take the seat off and press the pedal while watching. Does the starter belt slip in the SG pulley or the clutch pulley? Does nothing move?

I have the cart back wheels off the ground and I watch the starter, clutch rotate and stop. It will eventually start, but takes a long time when it is a cold start(first start of the day). I am out of things to try. No belts slips at all, just stop and rotate a little, stop and rotate again until
it finally starts.

I've heard that this problem most commonly occurs with a older/weaker battery? You said it's a new battery but what size battery and is it deep cycle or cranking?

Also when you say the S/G was checked at a shop, did they actually look at the SG brushes? This problem could happen due to worn S/G brushes.

Or have you tried jumping the stop start switch to see if it is bad.I had erratic starting until I figured out it was that.

Yes (starter) it was done by a pro at his shop brushes are new, battery is more cranking power than original.

The stop start switch? The switch at the gas pedal?

Could you take a voltage meter reading at the starter/generator. Volt meter black (-) on the starter brush plate end (where negative battery cable is connected) and volt meter red (+) on the feild lead that comes from the solenoid? Please post results. Thanks

Do what Block said, but wondering if the generator is not charging the batt?

I have the cart in my workshop with the back wheels jacked up. The battery is new, and is on battery tender every night, and has more cranking power than the original. I know it is not the battery. Installed a new factory clutch, new starter solenoid.
