Default Wire burnt in half

I was heading home and I stopped. When I started again it wouldn't move. I hopped off and opened up the seat and the wire from the motor to the forward and reverse switch burnt in half. What caused this and how do I prevent it from happening again?

well, if you tighten the bolt on the left, third one in, it should take care of the problem for you. just be sure not to tighten it.

It kept bending when I flipped the forward and reverse switch. I have another question I read this: A stock 48V controller can handle 60V but only under certain conditions.
1. Disconnect controller from batteries when charging
2. Make sure pack voltage is 60V or lower before connecting controller
3. Use at your own risk!
Is this all I have to do?

The wire is supposed to pivot at the switch; sounds like a piece might be missing.

Finish charge voltage of a 48V system is 60V so the controller must be able to withstand this voltage at the very least. The question though is can it handle the spikes produce from this voltage when the motor runs which is different than simply holding a steady 60V.
It is not recommended but a few have had success, frying the controller is a very real possibility.
