Default Frame voltage coming from solenoid

I was getting full pack voltage across my frame. Removed all the batteries and cleaned them and the tray thoroughly. Checked all the wires and was able to determine it was coming from the metal plate on the back of the solenoid that butts up to frame. I’m assuming this is not supposed to be happening, and it’s a brand new solenoid?

Here’s a picture of the solenoid:

That doesn't look like the right solenoid for that cart anyway

I ordered one along with the resistor when I ordere the new solenoid, but then someone here gave me the correct wiring diagram for my cart. It only shows a resistor present, no diode. I haven’t installed the resistor cause I’ve been troubleshooting the controller as well.

Its not the right solenoid. Cheap aftermarket one. Should be an Albright which is all plastic and a much better, but more expensive solenoid.

Yeah I agree. That was the same that was installed when I purchased it, and also matched the wiring diagram I was referencing at the time.

Ok thanks, I assumed there wasn’t much difference between the two. I just ordered the correct one!

I'm curious to know how you determined the solenoid mount was conducting current to the frame. Can you expound

I was troubleshooting the controller (testing the 16 pin connector) I just happen to lay the positive lead from the voltmeter on the frame and noticed I was getting full pack voltage.

Disconnected the main positive from battery pack and it was still there. Cleaned all batteries and tray, and the frame voltage was gone. Hooked up the main positive and it was back. So the only hot wires coming directly from the battery pack go to the solenoid and then to the tow/run switch. Checked the switch and it was fine. Checked the wiring from the switch back to solenoid and all was good. So it had to be the solenoid

Unbolted the solenoid from the frame, and the frame voltage was gone. Tested the metal plate on he back of the solenoid and it was showing pack voltage
