Re: trailer help?
Thats a long tailgate. I think mine is 3 1/2 to 4' long. I've never had any problems with cart bottoming or lifting gate unassisted. I like your hinge. I couldn.'t see details exactly but my trailer has pins welded to frame and pipe welded to gate. I can slide gate sideways to completely remove if needed. Mine has similar use of pipe and pin to lock gate closed. It also had about 12" of chain welded to pin if I want gate partially open.
Looking good. Mike |

Re: trailer help?
Yeh, my buddies gate was 4 and many dead carts with flat tires have caught the end of the trailer on the way in. So I figured more was better. Do you have experience with the spring I showed?

Re: trailer help?
Thank you, I like the spring too but, I can't figure out how to mount it. I even tacked it on and then broke it off. Ouch Anyone know about mounting these things? Do both ends need to move?
Is it just too big? |

Re: trailer help?
We had springs like that on the older glass topped vacuum frames in the repro area at work. They were VERY powerful and a real bear to install. Also, if you don't have the correct size for the task it is a waste of time. How do you determine the correct size? Beats me.

Re: trailer help?
I believe that - I'm about to give up. A little search revealed the installation for these springs. I'll post pics for any one else who may be considering them as an alternative to the $200 rail mounted ones.

Re: trailer help?
Google IS amazing! There is a whole other world of lawnmower people out there! They use a lot of small trailers and operate the gates 20 times @ day.
Some interesting trialer gate assist systems, this looks clean: http://www.lawncafe.com/attachment.p...2&d=1108058319 or http://www.lawncafe.com/attachment.p...4&d=1108062379 and what I'm trying to do ... http://www.lawncafe.com/attachment.p...9&d=1108133030 Since I had to join the forum to view the pics.....I am now ready to help all of you with your lawn care Questions! |
