new high speed motor and still no speed
I am brand new to the forum. I have a 98 ez go with 23 in tires, 400 amp Axe controller, upgraged solenoid, 2 gage wiring, and a brand new high speed Admiral motor and it still doesn't go but 14 mph. I did not change to a heavy duty foward-reverse switch. Could this be the reason for no speed. The ad for the motor states it will go 21 mph with no upgrades.

What type of batteries do you have and how old are they? I would definately upgrade the f/r switch, ScottyB sells a nice ultra cool switch cam, but that is most likely not your problem. Is your controller progammable?

Re: new high speed motor and still no speed
Sorry , I think I replied in the wrong place. The batteries are Golf Cart Pros and the controller was checked out on the computer and is in the correct program. Also, even before I put the high speed motor on it, it has trouble going up a 20% grade in reverse.

I'm not sure, but it sounds like a battery problem to me.

Re: new high speed motor and still no speed
The first thing I would do is check the batteries. Go buy a hydrometer, or specific gravity meter and check all of your batteries, also let them charge fully then sit for 12 hours and get a voltage reading off of each battery. I would go ahead and order the ultra cool hd f/r can from ScottyB, it is an easy install and with your setup you are going to need it. The high speed motors are amphogs and you dont want the stock switch acting as a bottleneck. Check your batteries with the hydrometer and let us know.

Re: new high speed motor and still no speed
If you have the orange wire connected on the small #4 terminal it is the half power reverse wire.... disconnect this and tape it up safely and try that hill in reverse again. Even so, remember. There is a trade off between speed and torque. The more speed you build a motor for the less torque you have and vise versa.
Check that the cart rolls easily on the flat, push it by hand to test. Any drag will inhibit performance. |
