Default proper install of voltage reducer

hey,

Today I looked at a client's car that the lights were not working. The only lights on the car were headlights. He had a reducer set up in the cart(36v system) and the wires from it were as follows: red is input positive, blue is input neg, black is output neg, yellow is output pos, and orange is for the key switch. Every wire was installed correctly until I saw that he combined BOTH output negative with input negative on the main battery negative! I checked the fuse right away and it was intact. I understand that the input negative and output negative are just grounds, but because there are separate wires for each one on the voltage reducer, I assumed that was not a good idea to do.

So basically I separated the two wires and wired them to their respective wire from the reducer. Turns out after checking all wires, the toggle switch that turns on/off the lights, the lights themselves, and battery pack voltage the lights still don't work. Should I assume at this point the reducer died out?
Do you guys think it is still worth checking the reducer wires to see if I am getting 12v out of it, or is what I described evidence enough??

All negative connection on electric carts go to pack negative. NO frame grounds.

If you has an isolated voltage reducer, you need a negative block for all 12 volt negative connections, then the output negative would connect to the negative block.

Sorry I didn't mean ground wire, but yes the negative output is corrected now and tied into the headlights negative now. But do you agree that the reducer is toast?

I was going to suggest checking the in-line fuse then I re-read the first post.

On second thought, there could be another fuse ( left behind after the reducer was installed)

Yeah you were right to say never mind... Lol kidding. But seriously that is a good point but I did check for that possibility. Do you feel the reducer died out on me?

Good to go the reducer is a Chinese made cheapie so no big shocker if it's toast
