Default New guy with 96 DS and some confusion.

Picked up a 96 DS from a friend who didn't want it anymore, says it won't take a charge and doesn't want to mess with it so it is now in my possession. Cart has a power drive 17930 charger and 6 6 volt batteries. Serial number says it's a 36v DS I think, he said he used the charger for years just would plug it in for awhile and than unplug it. Well one night he forgot to unplug it and ever since then the problems have surfaced.

I know the batteries are cooked (plus they are stickered 06) and I planned on going to a 48v system anyways but how do I know what exactly I'm starting with so I know what to get for the conversion? I'm going to go with the 6 - 8V for the replacement batteries but after that I'm not sure. Is there something I can look for to indicate that it actually is a 48v system that he just had running on 36v? Or it is 36v cart and he just had a 48v charger? Does it matter?

Here is a picture of the battery setup.

Thank for all for any help,
Chris

Thank you ScottyB. It's round so I'm starting with a 48v cart. What are the chances running under the 36v setup the obc is still good?

You will have to try it. I bought a 48v cart with weak 36v batteries in it once. I put 48v batteries in it and it ran ok - not fast but reliable. That's typical of these carts

Check to see if anybody changed the motor - does it say 36 or 48v

Thanks again ScottyB! Going to send you an email about what package might work the best going forward since you a have a decent idea of the background of the cart.

You've got a series 48v cart, and more than likely have the pot box throttle.

Thanks jakesnake27, going to replace the batteries and get it back to 48v and go from there.
