Batteries only charging to 45 volts
I replaced all my batteries this past week and have not been able to get them to a full 48 volts charge. They were at 44 yesterday and since then they have only gone to around 46 volts. I checked the water level and all are good. I do have the yellow colored OBC light that comes on every once in a while but does not stay on. I followed the procedures list by STICKY and so far all is good. Can someone tell me what might be going on? Is there anyway to actually check the chargers output and if so what should it be reading. Thanks

Re: Batteries only charging to 45 volts
simple things first....are they the correct batteries that total 48v. are they correctly wired in together, positive to negative etc. etc.... did someone sell you a junk battery.
measure voltage at the main while charging, it should be well over 48 from the charger |

Re: Batteries only charging to 45 volts
Yes they are the correct batteries totaling 48 volts, they are wired correctly and when I first put them in from the golf cart shop I believe they I checked them and they read 49 total volts. When you say "main" are you talking about the charger? how do I go about testing the voltage coming from the charger, does it have to be plugged into the cart and the electric outlet or just into the outlet and not the cart? Thanks

Re: Batteries only charging to 45 volts
Plug the charger into the cart and let it cycle on. While it's charging check the voltage between the pack (+) and pack (-) terminals.

Re: Batteries only charging to 45 volts
Plug the Charger into the wall and into the cart. Wait for it to turn on. Make sure the ammeter needle goes up to indicate that it is actually charging.
Check the charging voltage at the main pack positive. That's the one with the cable that goes to the solenoid. Your Positive charge lead from the receptacle should be connected to that same terminal. Sounds to me like either one battery is reversed, or the positive charge lead is on the wrong terminal. Could have a dud battery. Check the voltage on EACH battery individually while it is charging. With brand new batteries they should all be very close to the same. A brand new pack that only reads 49V is a bit of a worry IMO. That could either mean thay sat around n a shelf for a long time, or one of them is faulty. My battery supplier sells so many batteries I always end up with a set fresh off the delivery truck, and they tend to measure around 50.5v every time. Sounds like a small difference, but it actually does matter when talking about State Of Charge on a brand new pack. |

Re: Batteries only charging to 45 volts
Just went and checked them with the charger on, read total volts of 45.4, checked each battery separately and they all read 7.57 or 7.58, one read 7.5. I believe as stated above when I installed them the total volts was 50.3 somewhere around there.

Re: Batteries only charging to 45 volts
Which charger do you have?
When you plug it in, you hear it click on and the transformer hum? what does the ammeter do? Should go way up over 15amps and stay there. |

Re: Batteries only charging to 45 volts
I have a Schauer model # Jac1548h, it has no type of meter on it to see if it goes to 15 amps, as far as hearing it click or humming when I plug it in I don't hear a click, only the fan motor running.

Re: Batteries only charging to 45 volts
That charger cannot be used with an OBC.

Re: Batteries only charging to 45 volts
I believe it's a 2002 or 03, was told it has obc, used it for 2 yrs with this charger and always charged it back up, had to replace batteries cause 4 of the 6 were bad, which now I don't understand why it won't fully charge
