i can get a volt meter, yes it was on for about a month & i dont think its an auto shut off type.

Your batteries are probably cooked! If you have to get new batteries now may be a good time to go 48v......

Depends on what battery configuration you use. 48 volts is either six 8 volt or eight 6 volt batteries. The later gives both but adds weight to the cart.....
I have done the conversion both ways and find the 8v batteries the best way to go. You will need a new 48v soenoid to go with them. Probably bigger cables to appreciate the increase in available amperage. It is 33% more power and speed... You also need a way to charge them.
What year/model is your cart?

I realize I'm late in joining, but I just got my Melex and I want in! I just bought a Melex 512E and L-O-V-E I-T-!!!

Yup, it's stock for now, but not for long!
