Club Car Melted Battery Terminal
I have a 2016 Precedent that the post melted on a brand new battery. The only loose connection I could find was the solenoid. Could a loose bolt on the solenoid cause one of the terminals/cables to melt? Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Re: Club Car Melted Battery Terminal
A loose solenoid connection would NOT cause a battery terminal to melt.
But over-torqueing a battery connection certainly could loosen the stainless steel stud embedded in the lead post, causing increased resistance, heat generation and a melted post ... and it can happen frequently with significantly over-torqued battery connections. What value did you torque your terminals to? The typical stud type terminals used on Trojan batteries have a torque spec of 100 INCH-lbs which is only about 8 FOOT-pounds ... which is not very much torque . What make of batteries and what type of connections? |

Re: Club Car Melted Battery Terminal
Bad connection at the battery terminal itself is the only reason for terminal to melt! It can be tight but if the cables are not clean, you don't have a good enough connection. It's also important to have the high current cable against the terminal stud and lower current wires above in the stack if there is more than one cable on a connection point. I have seen this done wrong by battery installers many times!
