Default RXV with one bad battery, go lithium?

I’ve leaned a lot these last couple days on this forum and I still have a lot more to learn. My 2013 had a negative battery post melt down over the weekend. I mostly understand how it happened, fully charged battery on Freedom II setting going down some hills in my neighborhood and the regen juice had nowhere to go. Maybe a burn coil failed too??? I think I have this mostly diagnosed right.

Anyway I planned to eventually go lithium once my batteries were shot, currently they are 4 years old but still hold good charge and my speed has only dropped from 30mph new to 27 or so now. I know I can fix the negative post but this actually happened to the same battery only the positive post a year ago which I thought was due to a loose battery cable. So I don’t want to band aid this battery anymore so should I just replace it with a new one or eat the cost and jump to Lithium? From some of my reading this regen can make it difficult to find the correct setup for lithium rxv carts. Ive read some good write ups on here but I’m unsure what route to go. A good friend of mine is also good friends with the guys at Patriot Power supply and so he recommended the 12v drop in replacement lithium batteries from them. I like the cleanliness of the RoyPow and other single big batteries instead plus another member here said those patriot power batteries would not pair well with the regen dilemma.

My cart is stock motor and controller (programmed) with 14” wheels no lift. I use it for cruising around the neighborhood. I don’t need 40 mile capability, I just want to maintain my speed and make it more reliable so I don’t have any more melted battery posts. I have no idea how many amps I’m putting out now etc, I’m not very electrically inclined. Any advise?

Skip the 4x12v option. You’ll constantly be battling charging/equalization/balancing/other issues. I don’t know if anyone that’s had long term success with 4x12v. If they have they sure don’t speak up about it.

I’d recommend either the 72aH ecobattery or a pair of 48v 30aH allied batteries. Plowmans carts may have the allieds in stock still, they usually do (but now it’s warming up here in Michigan so everyone is getting their carts ready for the season).

My DS is basically stock, and I’d get around 30 miles on a charge with the 2 batteries @60aH.

You probably has to start a new thread... I'm not a lithium specialist, but don't replace only one bad battery, never! And the RXV with lithium battery can be problematic. A bms shut down at higher speed would cause the em brake to engage... not funny @ 30mph

Yeah not familiar with the RXV, my regen is disabled. I’d imagine you should be able to do the same in the RXV, no?

The RXV has a regen service brake and NO wheel brakes, not a good idea to disable it. The additional electro magnetic parking brake has a emergency function, it'll engage (mechanically) when power get lost.

Ive read a little about a few members who have replaced with disc brakes. That regen brake definitely makes what should be an easy decision a little more difficult.

Thanks for the help guys and I’ll copy and move this thread over to the appropriate forum.

Had no idea they did it like that. That sucks. Definitely makes things difficult if wanting to switch to lithium then

This has been gone through extensively in another thread. Lithium in an RXV without some sort of emergency power to keep the brake disengaged on a BMS shutdown is very dangerous. At least one member here had their cart flip with multiple people on board when the BMS shut down at 30mi/h.

As already mentioned, go 48v batteries, not multiple 12v.

Cheers
Pat.
